On 16 November 2015 I talked about the relevance of Social Media for the news business to an audience consisting of academics, legal experts and industry representatives at a workshop that was co-located with WIFS 2015 in Rome, Italy.
In my presentation, I raised how user-generated content is changing established practices in the news industry, what consequences this has had already, where the challenges and obstacles lie, and what ways forward there are. The workshop entitled Thematic Meeting on Multimedia Truthfulness Verification in Legal Environment and Social Media was hosted as part of WIFS 2015.
It gave me the opportunity to especially engage with legal experts and try and bridge some gaps existing between academic research and practical industry needs. A beneficial undertaking for all involved, I hope.
